Billboard development is a fragmented, regulation-heavy business. Finding viable sites has traditionally meant manual research, scattered public records and countless hours spent piecing together local rules.
RKDG built its own proprietary software to change the economics of that process.
Our platform brings the core research behind billboard feasibility into one connected workflow. Each tool answers a different question. Together, they help us separate promising opportunities from sites that are unlikely to work before substantial time and money are committed.
The platform organizes and screens local sign regulations against the questions that determine billboard feasibility: whether off-premise signs are allowed, what restrictions apply and where additional approvals may be required. Findings are linked to the underlying code so they can be reviewed, challenged and verified.
We evaluate parcel boundaries, roadway relationships and jurisdictional boundaries to establish where a site sits, which authority controls it and whether its physical position warrants further investigation. The right parcel in the wrong jurisdiction can be the difference between a viable project and a dead end.
We combine available state and federal traffic data with mapped roadways, existing signs and interchange geometry to assess exposure and identify potential spacing conflicts. These checks help establish whether a location merits deeper diligence, field verification and regulatory review.
Identify parcels and corridors that match the development criteria. Establish the relevant parcel, roadway and governing jurisdiction.
Evaluate applicable sign regulations, traffic, spacing and physical site conditions against the requirements of a potential billboard.
Review source material, resolve conflicts, identify missing information and determine which constraints may be addressed through a different site configuration, additional approvals or a revised development strategy.
Determine whether to advance the opportunity, investigate a path to approval or walk away. Document the basis for the decision and identify the next steps.
A code can appear to prohibit a sign when a specific approval path may exist.
A site can pass an initial screen and still fail under closer review.
Public records can be incomplete, mapped conditions can be outdated and local interpretation can matter as much as the written rule.
Our advantage is not software alone.
It is proprietary technology built around the realities of billboard development, refined through real-world work and paired with the experience to act on what it finds.
Height limits, face-area restrictions, spacing requirements and digital-sign rules can make a project difficult without necessarily making it impossible. The right response depends on the actual ordinance, the authority involved, the available approval paths and the economics of the site. We distinguish between three outcomes:
The initial research supports further development, subject to verification and required approvals.
The site has a material constraint, but a potential route may exist through redesign, variance, conditional use, relocation or another lawful path. The path must be evaluated, not assumed.
The site is prohibited or faces constraints that leave no viable approval path, or the risk and economics do not justify continuing.
Not every site can be saved. Knowing when to stop is part of the advantage.
The platform reflects what we learn in the field. Every market, ordinance, parcel and development challenge adds to our understanding of how the process works and where it can be made more effective.
We are building a repeatable development capability, not a black box.
Have a property, corridor or portfolio to evaluate? Send us a site. We will review the available information and explain what the initial screen shows, what remains uncertain and whether further investigation makes sense.
